About the Artist

Wang Sanyou, a member of Chinese National Calligrapher Association, council at the Central Academy of calligraphy and painting of the Revolutionary Committee of the Kuomintang, and a first-class “Zhang Cao” Cursive Style Calligraphy artist. Wang Sanyou’s works show a solid ground of traditional inheritance yet demonstrates an obvious breakthrough both in the arrangement of strokes and in the way he construct forms by introducing a very personal, bold, unretrained, wild style, while in the same time, he pays close attention to the emotional harmony between content and the calligraphy style. In addition, Wang Sanyou’s refined capacity in creating forms in calligraphy benefits from his practice in the Chinese ink painting, which he also won a number of national awards for. Wang Sanyou has participated in over 50 national level exhibitions and won awards for over 10 times including the highest prize in “Lan Ting Award“ which is the highest award for calligraphy art in China. In result, he has achieved great performance on the capital market with auction records of over 6 figures.

In this calligraphy work, he applied his bold, free cursive calligraphy style to the poem written by the famous poet Li Bai from Tang Dynasty, in which the poet was expressing his sentiment for a friend living far away in an autumn evening when he was spending the night in the cold mountains. the emotion of Li Bai’s poem is as bold, wild and powerful as the calligraphy itself.
