About the Artist

Na Yu Cheng, born in 1963, Liaoning province, China, Manchu. A member of China National Artist Association and a member of China National Gong Bi Ink Art Association, Na Yucheng is famous for his Gong Bi (Fine Brush) Ink work depicting the Chinese beauties, which often comes with 3 themes: 1) the court ladies; 2) modern ladies; 3) minority ladies. His delicate brush works, precise capture of his object - both her shape and her spirit, and especially his capability of using colors and the shifts between various ink halos to create a gentle, mysterious, romantic and dreamy mood are well expressed in his works. As a contemporary artist, Na clearly is influenced by the western tradition of realism, yet the often appearance of elements such as lotus, pearl, magnolia, cloud, etc. as well as the "emotions" created through the execution of impressionistic brushwork for the background make the entire work extremely "eastern".
