About the Artist
Wu Kongting, a member of Chinese Artists Association, member of Chinese Meticulous Painting Society, vice president of Nine Carp Painting Academy, member of Beijing Traditional Chinese Painting Artists Association. Wu has participated in national and provincial exhibitions dozens of times, and won numerous awards. In 1998, at the age of 24, he was included in the World Chinese Painting and Calligraphy Yearbook. In 2017, he was shortlisted in the "Global Top 500 Ink Painting Exhibition" (Hong Kong).
Wu Kongting's meticulous Gongbi brushwork, while holding to the nature of Gongbi techniques through concise forms, emphasizes on displaying the inner life characteristics of the subject with visual and perceptible artistic language, creating a poetic environment of blending scenes and enriching interest, with delicate and soft lyrical temperament. This is particularly seen in his animal series of ink paintings, be it deer, tiger, dog or panda. Besides, Wu is also well known for his ability to "construct scenes", which is another personal trait that distinguishes him from traditional Gongbi painters. For example, is this painting, the naive nature of the two pandas is not only portrayed with vivid, expressive “forming“ techniques, but also echoed in the collocation of colors and the rendering of the natural environment, even through the careful selection of a particular type of rice paper that can enhance the effect the artist was aiming for, as well as the position of the seals that contributes to the overall harmony. At the same time, it combines the keen capture of the contemporary aesthetic taste of the new generation of painters and their personal interpretation of the "elegant and quiet" nature of Chinese art.
Wu has achieved constant growth in the capital market, even during the corvid pandemic. His work of Gongbi Painting of Pandas, one is quite similar to what we see here, was auctioned for over USD 92070 in 2022 by ECAuctions International.
