About the Artist

Zhu Geliang was born in 1964 in Anqing, Anhui Province, China. Zhu has established himself as a contemporary landscape ink painting master through over 30 years of study following the teaching of the great master Shenpeng, Li Gangtian, Zhang Daoxing Sun Boxiang, Lin Xiu, Cao Baolin, Zhang Xu-guang etc. He is now a member of Chinese Artists Association, a member of Anhui Calligraphers Association, resident painter of Beijing Painting Academy, director of Huangshan Printing Society, director of Huangshan Intangible Cultural Heritage Inheritors Association, and vice president of Beijing Wenxian Painting Academy. His works have been compiled into the Dictionary of New Chinese Artists, and have been permanently collected by Huang Binhong Art Museum. He was commissioned by Anhui Provincial Government to draw Yellow Mountain tour map which has been repeatedly printed for over 30,000 copies. Meanwhile he is also proficient in calligraphy, seal cutting and mounting.

Zhu’s painting shows a clear influence of Huang Binhong, however, has formed his own very personal characteristics, breaking away from the simple taste of literati painting, and replacing it with a natural, innocent, unique yet wild style. The brushwork is delicate, smooth and bold, touching upon the spiritual essence of the untamed charm of nature.

This one is a fine blue heavy color painting. What it depicts is not a real place, but the landscape in the artist’s mind. And these landscapes are never repeated in Zhu’s various works. This reminds us of some of Huang Yongyu's works - Many of them are also non-existent, be it bird or flower. The two artists are so different in their styles yet so similar as they all paint the beauty and the intercommunication of the soul.

Zhu Geliang’s works have seen rising popularity among professional organizations and private collectors, and are sold between 6-7 figures (RMB) on average.
