About the Artist

Zhu Hanyun, born in 1971, Jiangsu Province, China, BA of Fine Arts from Nanjing Normal University and MFA from China Central Academy of Fine Arts. He's a member of China National Artist Association, Researcher of Contemporary Ink Wash Institute of Shanghai Academy of Visual Arts, Deputy Secretary General of Printmaking Institute of Li Keran Painting Academy.

Zhu first gained his name for his fine art printmaking which had won him a gold medal at national exhibition when he was just 23. Later he switched to experimental ink wash painting and invented a new method called "Wrinkling Spray" which was patented worldwide. By combining "Wrinkling Spray" methodology and freehand brushwork, Zhu Hanyun keeps breaking boundaries of what people think of traditional Chinese ink painting. The images he created with such techniques are often multi-dimensional, dreamy, poetic and mysterious - mountains and waterfalls casting shadows onto one another, deers walking through fantasy land with lights and shadows involving like the flowing music. "The natural landscape we see is no different from what the ancients saw, but our understanding and relationship with the universe is no longer the same. and my artwork is to investigate my very private emotions toward what I see."

His efforts are clearly highly recognized by professional critics and art lovers. since the 90s, his works have been selected for the 8th, 10th, 11th, 12th and 13th National Art Exhibitions, and the 6th and 10th China Art Festival Outstanding Art Exhibitions, Beijing International Art Biennale, etc. More than 30 works have been permanently collected by the National Art Museum of China, the Central Academy of Fine Arts, over 10 provincial museums across China, and the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of Liege, Belgium, the Czech National Gallery, the Royal Palace Museum of Art in Monaco, etc. By far, hundreds of works are collected by private collectors at home and abroad.
